Regine Confirms Pregnancy And Goes On Maternity Leave

Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid are expecting a baby. This is what the Asia's Songbird confirmed on the Sunday variety show "Party Pilipinas" earlier Sunday, April 17.

"Alam kong marami na kayong naririnig pero syempre maganda rin na sa amin mismo manggaling kung ano talaga ang nangyayari. Totoo po na Ogie and I are going to have a baby," Regine said through a video message.

Regine is seven weeks pregnant.

It was entertainment columnist Jun Lalin who first reported via TV5's showbiz-oriented talk show "Paparazzi" that Regine is five weeks pregnant last April 3, Sunday. Days after the said report, GMA 7 announced Regine will leave the hit romantic-comedy show "I ♥ You Pare" due to her severe migraine attacks. The couple chose to remain silent regarding the issue until today.

Through the video message, the singer-actress apologized for not confirming the news sooner.

"Pasensya na po kayo at hindi po namin agad sinabi. Hindi naman sa nililihim namin. But I was always getting sick, kaya minabuti namin na wag na muna magsalita para maayos ko muna yung sarili ko at yung ibang bagay na kailangan naming ayusin," Regine said. "Pero ngayon po, clear na naman lahat at siguradong sigurado na rin po kami na it's true, we're going to have a baby, and it's a happy birthday gift for me."

"Party Pilipinas" gave a birthday tribute for the singer, with Kyla, La Diva, and Rachelle Ann Go singing some of the iconic songs Regine has performed over the years.

For his tribute, Ogie sang "Buhat," the first song he learned how to perform.

"And surprisngly, ito rin ang unang kantang inaral ng aking asawa... Ito ba po ay coincidence? Maaari. But I call it destiny. And I also believe that destiny has paved the way for Regine to receive her much awaited blessing," Ogie shared before Regine's announcement.

"This is probably one of the happiest birthdays na nagkaroon ako. My wish is for my baby to be health kahit ano, kahit babae, kahit lalaki, so sana healthy lang sya," Regine said via phone patch on "Party Pilipinas.

The Much Awaited Announcement Of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid Is Not About Her Pregnancy

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid officially announced that she is leaving her primetime hit show, "I ♥ You Pare."

"It is with a heavy heart na iiwanan ko yung show na 'I ♥ You Pare.' Humihingi po ako ng paumanhin at hindi ko muna matutuloy yung role na I've come to love very, very much already. I miss everybody in the show," Regine said on GMA-7's Sunday variety show "Party Pilipinas" on Sunday, April 10.

The Asia's Songbird said she is leaving the show for health reasons.

"Lately, I've been very sickly. I've been in and out of the hospital. Yun pong aking doctor, pinayuan akong may I should rest for a while. But, I will definitely be back. Hindi ko na lang kayang ituloy yung role ko bilang Tonette," she said.

Regine added, "I would like to say thank you sa aking mga bosses, sa mga Kapuso po talagang totoo. Kasi iniintindi po talaga nila yung sitwasyon ko. Health first before anything else."

The official statement sent by GMA 7 to Yahoo! OMG! Philippines and other entertainment media earlier this week cited "severe migraine attacks" as the reason for her leave. Last February, Regine was rushed to the hospital in the middle of taping for "I ♥ You Pare." She was confined at the Makati Medical Center due to bronchitis for three days.

As previously announced, Iza Calzado will replace Regine as the show's protagonist, Tonette/Tonya.

"Sa akin pong pagbabakasyon, inililipat ko po ang korona at sya na po ang uupo sa trona bilang Tonya," Regine said.

Regine and husband Ogie Alcasid have yet to address reports last week saying Regine is pregnant. In a text message sent to the Philippine Daily Inquirer earlier this week, Ogie said: "To our dear friends, please allow me to apologize for not answering your texts or calls this week. It has not been an easy week. My wife and I just had to focus on things that really matter to us. In due time, we will be ready to answer you. Thank you so much for the concern and the understanding. Again, my apologies and God bless you."
