Mr. & Mrs A Press Conference & Baby Nate's Baptism Updates

CLICK ME for more photos...
After fielding questions during the print-media portion of her first post-natal presscon with husband Ogie Alcasid yesterday at Cravings (Roces Ave. off Tomas Morato Ave., Quezon City) and before the round of TV interviews, Regine Velasquez excused herself to breastfeed their two-month-old son Nathaniel (nicknamed Nate like the son of Krista Ranillo and NiƱo Jefferson Lim).
“I’ve been breastfeeding Nate since his birth,” volunteered Regine. Nate weighed a little more than four pounds at birth and now weighs twice as heavy.
“Thanks to Regine’s milk,” said Ogie who, since he has two daughters with ex-wife Michelle van Eimeren (who is based in Australia with her new husband, fellow Aussie Mark Burrow, and daughters Leila and Sarah), is more experienced than Regine in caring for a baby. “When I change Nate’s diapers, sandali lang. Si Regine, marami pang seremonya…nag-iinit muna ng tubig, nag-a-apply ng lotion at kung anu-ano pa.”

The presscon for the couple’s Valentine concert Mr. & Mrs. A. on Feb. 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum (produced by Star-Media, with Dingdong Dantes, Vice Ganda, Angeline Quinto and Kyla as guest performers, directed by Randy Santiago) was light and breezy, altogether free-wheeling, when the topic veered towards the couple’s parenting style.
Now, did you know that Regine has named her breasts “Susan” and “Amalia” (without saying who’s left and who’s right)?
Asked “who” is Nate’s favorite to suck on, Regine said still in jest, “Kay Susan,” generating laughter from the crowd.
“I want to breastfeed Nate for as long as I can; ayokong mag-shift to formula kaagad.”

There’s a Filipino kaugalian (custom) that before the baby, it should be the husband who should first suck its mom’s breast.
“I forgot to do that,” admitted Ogie.
“I think that is so that the mother’s milk will flow freely kasi mas malakas dumede ang father,” explained Regine. “With Nate, hindi na kinailangan kasi ang lakas-lakas niya dumede. Ang takaw-takaw niya!”
During her pregnancy, Regine weighed more than 190 lbs., and thanks to Yoga she has so far shed 30 lbs. but has to get rid of more than 30 lbs. more to get back to her ideal weight.
“I can do rigorous workout,” said Regine who underwent Caesarian section. “My doctor advised me not to. Instead, one week after giving birth, I decided to take Yoga.”
Thankfully, her current weight doesn’t affect her singing.
“My doctor assured me that after six weeks, my surgical wound would start to heal,” added Regine, not even if she resorts to her birit style.

It’s also her avoirdupois that’s preventing her from making a comeback, although she will appear only as “guest” (and as co-host of Ogie, et al) on the GMA show Party Pilipinas one of these Sundays to promote their Valentine show.
“Mabuti na lang my bosses are not pressuring me to go back,” said Regine. “Sana hindi muna ako bigyan ng offer at least for a year because I want to concentrate on raising Nate.”

Among her projects on hold is her movie with Aga Muhlach (who himself has shed considerable poundage), which has shot for several days but is in danger of being totally revised because, as Regine simply put it, “we look differently now from how we did at that time.” The shoot has been postponed several times because Regine and Aga’s schedule just wouldn’t jibe, both of them being then busy with other projects.

Meanwhile, Regine contents herself with by being mother to Nate and wife to Ogie who doesn’t mind working, as usual, oftentimes until the wee hours when he comes home tired.

“Sometimes,” related Regine, “Nate sleeps with us. Kabisado ko na ang feeding time niya. Si Ogie, no matter how busy or how tired he is, nakukuha pa niyang maging hands-on father. Kapag basa si Nate, I would wake him (Ogie) up at siya ang nagpapalit ng lampin.”

Nate will have a “special participation” in his parents’ concert but Regine was mum on what it will be. The guess is that Ogie will dedicate a song to Nate while film photos of different stages of the boy’s growth are flashed on the monitor onstage.

On Sunday, Nate will be baptized in Catholic rites, to be followed later on by his dedication in Christian rites.
Asked how he preferred to be called, Ogie said, “I want Nate to call me Tatay. Ang sarap pakinggan ngword na Tatay.” On his GMA show Daldalita, Ogie is called Tatay by his kiddie co-star Jillian Ward.“Tumatalon ang puso ko everytime Jillian calls me Tatay.”
What about Regine?
“I don’t know about her,” said Ogie. “It’s up to her.”
And how soon will they, or can they, start working on their second baby?
“Bawal muna,” laughed Ogie. “Maybe after one year.”
Said Regine, “It’s up to Him,” looking upward, “kung ilan ang ibigay Niya sa amin.”

Regine Velasquez: "You are no longer your own, but mine!"

more photos here
The wedding vows were so touching that the well-heeled guests couldn‘t help but cry.

The groom, Ogie Alcasid, 43, lovingly looked at his bride, Regine Velasquez, as he said in English, “I will be your Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Justin Bieber,” and Regine, 40, her eyes fixed on her brand-new husband, answered in Tagalog, “Kuwarenta anyos na ako kaya pasensya na lang kung masungit ako kung minsan.”

Recounted STAR contributor Girlie Rodis who was among the teary-eyed guests, “Not a pair of eyes was dry.”

Then, Regine sang the APO song Di Ko Malimutan, part of which goes, …di ko maalaala kung kailan nagsimula, di ko malimutan kung kailan ko natikman ang tamis ng ‘yong halik, yakap na napaka-higpit, pagibig na tunay hanggang langit…

The wedding, held at The Peak, Terrazas de Punta Fuego, Nasugbu, Batangas, as heavenly shades of night were falling late yesterday afternoon, was dubbed Wedding of The Decade. It will be shown as a TV special on Sunday, Dec. 26, on GMA with which the couple is under exclusive contract, with a wedding primer to be aired tomorrow in Startalk, also on GMA.

The radiant bride walked down the aisle to the tune of Ryan Cayabyab’s wedding song Iniibig Kita.

Regine was the first-ever bride to wear a red wedding dress specially designed by Monique Lhuillier for reportedly $8,000 (although some people claimed it cost more), a gift for her by Dr. Vicki Belo who stood as one of the 20 principal sponsors who also included Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde, GMA big boss Felipe L. Gozon, GMA exec Wilma Galvante, TV5 boss Manny V. Pangilinan, Sharon Cuneta, Jose Mari Chan, Viva boss Vic del Rosario Jr., Tony Tuviera, German Moreno, Ida Henares, Nanette Inventor, Orlando Ilacad, Anastacia Puno, Dr. Crisanta Villanueva, US-based concert producer Ma. Rosario Legarda, Ronnie Henares, Freddie Santos and Michel Lhuillier and wife Amparito Llamas-Lhuillier (Monique’s parents).

Ogie is an endorser of the Lhuillier string of pawnshops, so Monique accommodated Vicki’s order for Regine’s gown made last August when Regine, accompanied by Vicki, went to L.A. for her measurements.

Pres. Noynoy “P-Noy” Aquino was one of the groomsmen. He left soon after the ceremony and didn’t attend the reception.

Ogie’s ex-wife Michelle Van Eimeren was Candle Bearer with her husband Mark Morrow. It was Michelle who did the floral arrangement. When Michelle and Mark got married in Australia last year, Ogie and Regine were present. Leila Isabel, older of Michelle and Ogie’s two daughters, was Maid of Honor. Sarah Kate, the other daughter, was Bible Bearer

The bride wore a pair of expensive boots which she playfully showed the guests by lifting the hemline of her gown.

In previous interviews with The STAR, Ogie and Regine revealed that they would have to postpone their honeymoon, most probably in Europe, to early next year. They planned to spend the next few days in Bohol, together with Michelle and Mark, plus Leila and Sarah Kate.

Regine admitted that she and Ogie have been living together since three years ago when news about their engagement leaked out in the media.

At the reception, Dingdong Avanzado, one of the groomsmen, dedicated Iibigin, a song he composed specially for the couple.

Regine Velasquez Hopes for 'Fantasy' to Help Reverse Revivals Trend

Singer Regine Velasquez hopes to revive the public’s interest in original Filipino songs by devoting half of her 2-CD set, “Fantasy,” to new compositions by celebrity songwriters including Chito Miranda, Janno Gibbs, Isabela Ledesma, Robin Nievera and Nyoy Volante.

Velasquez acknowledges that since this is her last album prior to marrying singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid later this month, she wanted “Fantasy” to be special.

“Kaya nga double CD ito. I want the people to have songs that they are already familiar with but at the same time, I want for this album to signal the return of original songs,” she told Bulletin Entertianment and other members of the press at the album launch tendered by Universal Records.

Though she did not say it categorically, Velasquez must’ve realized that in order to sound fresh, she needed to work with young composers or at least those whom she had not worked with before. Ogie helped her out by talking to most of them; going as far as following up on the submission of songs via email and helping out decide on those that made the final cut.

“Si Ogie ang kumausap kina Chito, Nyoy… ang nakausap ko lang sa mga 'yon para hingian ng kanta ay si Isabela and Robin,” she said.

Some of the notable originals in “Fantasy” are “True Romance,” which utilized clichĆ©s and even a line from a Julia Roberts movie; “OK Lang Ako” with its straightforward lyrics that amplified its core message all the more; and “Fairy Tale” that picks up in the middle when the drums kick in.

The covers that stand out are “Sana’y Laging Ganito” (first done by Karylle), “Falling In Love at a Coffee Shop” (Landon Pigg), “Without Me” (Claire Marlow) and “Papa Don’t Preach” (Madonna).

“We purposely did not choose an all-hit covers list because we didn’t want that group of songs to be stronger than the originals. Yung mga songs na gusto ko sanang irevive pero perfect na, di ko na inattempt gawin kasi baka masira ko lang,” said she.

“Fantasy” comes in two packaging (colored and black and white) each of which has a set of postcards of Velasquez taken by photographer Mark Nickdao.

Asked if some of the songs reflect her current state of mind especially as the wedding draws near, Velasquez said that if these do, it wasn’t intentional.

“May isa o dalawang kanta lang sa mga yon na inisip namin ni Ogie that those would be nice to go with pictures of us together. May mga nakita kasi kami sa Internet na collage na gawa ng mga fans pero ibang music ang gamit. Ogie and I thought na maybe it would be nice kung meron ding songs namin na original na pwedeng gamitin for that purpose,” said Regine.

Other tracks in “Fantasy” are “You Don’t Know” (the promotional single), “Been Waiting,” “Always,” “This Time,” “S.M.I.L.E.,” “Funny One,” “Walang Iba,” “Fantasy,” “All My Life,” “I Go Crazy,” “What About Love,” “You and Me,” “Love Will Keep Us Alive” and “Dying.”
