Do Re Mi Movie Part 2 After 20 Years?

Twenty years after it was first shown, the hit 1996 musical movie DoReMi--starring the trio of Donna Cruz, Regine Velasquez, and Mikee Cojuangco--has not been forgotten by fans. The duet of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Donna Cruz-Larrazabal at Regine's July 30 PLDT Home The Regine Series Nationwide Tour in Cebu even sparked clamor from fans for them to do a reunion movie! PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked its original writer and concept creator Mel Mendoza-del Rosario through Facebook Messenger if a sequel is happening this 2016. However, she answered, 'Naku... parang hindi [pa]...' According to her, the idea of a sequel really came from the fans of the original movie. She added, 'The idea really came from the fans. There really was a generation of DoReMi 'cult.' 'A lot of the netizens in their mid-20s to 30s see DoReMi as iconic for their time. 'So maybe, enough clamor from fans might make Boss Vic [Del Rosario, VIVA Films producer] consider a remake.' Mel is very happy that fans have not forgotten the movie, especially the scene in the comfort room where Donette (Donna) met Reggie (Regine) and Mikki (Mikee) for the first time when they sang 'Stop! In The Name of Love.' According to Wikipedia, DoReMi was dubbed as one of the most successful Filipino musical comedy films of the '90s when it earned P170 million during its one-month run in 1996. Directed by Ike Jarlego and produced by VIVA's Neo Films, the movie is also known for its theme song 'I Can,' which also became a hit in Philippine music charts. Read more at pep.ph
