IT’S RARE for an up-and-coming balladeer to receive the privilege of performing onstage with a cultural icon and respected artist at the level of Regine Velasquez.
But that is precisely what happens in the case of Myrus, the Sentimental Prince of Philippine music. For his first solo concert, the singer behind the hit revival of Claire dela Fuente’s “Sayang” will share the stage with no less than Asia’s Songbird.
“The great Regine Velasquez is my ultimate idol and inspiration. She is the best in her league and an aspiring singer like me could only wish to attain her level of success and respectability,” Myrus said.
“I am deeply honored to have her as one of my special guests in my debut concert. Being able to perform with her is a childhood dream… and I didn’t expect it to happen very soon,” added the certified gold record artist and 2008 ASEA Most Promising Young RnB Performer.

Regine, in a heart-warming gesture of support for Myrus, was believed to have even rescheduled a previously planned trip to Singapore just so she could perform at the concert. Dubbed “Myrus, The Sentimental Prince (A Tribute to Sentimental Original Pilipino Music),” it is scheduled on February 27 at the Teatrino in Promenade Mall, Greenhills Shopping Complex.
“We got very emotional when we learned that Regine could make it the concert. She’s such an inspiration to Myrus and her presence will certainly take the concert to a whole new level. We really cannot thank her enough,” says concert producer and Myrus’ talent manager Chris Cahilig.
Myrus is currently working on a cover of Regine’s popular song, “You Made Me Stronger,” which was penned by hit-maker Trina Belamide.
“I will be singing the song in my concert and I hope Ms. Regine agrees to sing it with me,” Myrus said, admitting that he’s feeling a bit pressured pressure now as his idol would be performing in his concert.
“The first time I met Ms. Regine, walang boses na lumabas sa akin. I don’t know what I would feel when I start singing in front of her,” related Myrus.
