What About Love

"What About Love" is a song recorded by the rock band Heart, and released in June 1985. The band's "comeback" single, it was the first Heart track to reach the top 40 in three years, and their first top 10 hit in five. It was released as the first single from the band's self-titled 1985 album, Heart, as well as their first hit single on their new record label, Capitol Records.

The song was originally recorded in 1982 by Canadian rock group Toronto, of which songwriters Sheron Alton and Brian Allen were members. (The other songwriter, Jim Vallance, was not a member of Toronto, though he played drums on Toronto's recording of the song.) However, Toronto elected not to release their version, upsetting Alton and Allen. They subsequently left the band and the song was offered to Heart who turned it into a worldwide hit. Toronto's original version appears as a bonus cut on the CD Toronto: he Greatest Hits.

The song's sound marked a considerable change in the musical direction for Heart, moving from the hard rock and folk rock of their earlier work to a more polished, power-ballad sound. "What About Love" received extensive airplay on MTV and returned Heart to the Top-10 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in five years, peaking at #10. The song peaked at #14 on the UK Singles Chart upon its re-release in 1988.

Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas, co-lead vocalists of Starship at the time, provide additional background vocals on the song.

These Dreams

"These Dreams" is a popular song released in 1986 by the rock band Heart from their 1985 self-titled album. It was the first song by the band to become a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

"These Dreams" was released as the third single from Heart's 1985 album Heart. Following two consecutive US top-ten singles, the song elevated the band's success even further, becoming Heart's first single to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 22, 1986.[2] It also became Heart's first (and, to date, only) number one song in the US Adult Contemporary chart and peaked at number sixty-two in the UK Singles Chart; however, a re-issue released in 1988 reached number eight.

The music video for "These Dreams" received heavy airplay from MTV and was the third of four US top-ten singles from the Heart album. The single's B-side, "Shell Shock", was also the B-side of Heart's previous single "Never".

The petite sail-shaped electric guitar Nancy played in the music video was the creation of Nashville Luthier David Petschulat, which had been purchased years earlier.

Alone

"Alone" is a song composed by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. It first appeared on via Steinberg and Kelly's pet project, 1983's I-Ten, Taking a Cold Look. It was later recorded by John Stamos in his role as Gino Minelli, on the original soundtrack of the CBS sitcom Dreams in 1984. American rock band Heart made it a hit in 1987. Twenty years later, CĂ©line Dion recorded it for her album Taking Chances.

The song was given to Heart and released as the first single from their ninth studio album Bad Animals. Heart's version is a power ballad which begins with a piano line and a subdued vocal from Ann Wilson, only to build to a dramatic love song. "Alone" is Heart's biggest hit, spending three weeks at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and ranking number 2 on the Billboard Year-End Top Pop Singles of 1987. It is also their most successful single in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. Paula Abdul was choreographer for the video.
