'The Year That Was For Regine' (The Best of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid 2013 In Review)

Blog Widget by LinkWithin

In January 5, 2013, Regine has opened the year with her crown still firmly in place during her Silver Rewind concert. The songbird fulfilled her promise, and her fans showed up again, filling the Mall of Asia Arena to capacity. It was clear that she has not only regained her roar but she also had a resounding redemption of reputation by the time the concert ends. The grand concert which was attended by celebrities and known personalities. It was musically directed by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and Raul Mitra and was accompanied by the 60-piece Manila Symphony Orchestra. Ogie AlcasidJanno GibbsMichael V. and Lani Misalucha were the guest artists during her first Silver Concert on November 16, 2012, while JayaRachelle Ann GoLa DivaGloc-9KC MonteroJose Manalo and Wally Bayola guested during the repeat.

In February 14, 2013, Regine Velasquez had a sold-out Valentine spectacle which combined the talents and charm of iconic show-stopping ex-couple Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez and Velasquez herself with husband Ogie Alcasid. The concert which was also held at the biggest arena in the country, the Mall of Asia Arena, arguably stole the thunder from other concerts held to embrace the heart's day - even those that featured international stars. The successful and much-talked about Foursome Valentine concert that gathered four of the country's singing icons for the first time also had a repeat performance due to public demand. The highly anticipated event happened on March 16, 2013 at the same venue, with a very special guest that definitely intensified the already powerful foursome team-up, Gary Valenciano. The concert being counted as the talk of town was greatly justified when it made the global guide list of last-minute Valentine date destinations as jotted down by CNN's travel writer Pam Grout. In the article titled "50 Cities, 50 Last-Minute Valentine's Dates," Manila was included at number 21, with the "Foursome" show suggested as the "historic Valentine's concert" to catch.
April 21, Regine celebrated her 43rd birthday (April 22) with a 'Rock' themed production number on Party Pilipinas w/ Rachel Ann Go and La Diva even though she needs to rest her voice that time due to her 'acid reflux' that made her voice hoarse. That was her last performance on Party Pilipinas where it was changed to an all new reformatted show called Sunday all Stars wherein she became one of the judges until she said that she'll only be doing it once a month to take care of her family obligations especially that it's on Sundays.
Another recognition has been received by Regine this year, which she bagged the Best Performance By An Actress In A Leading Role (Musical/Comedy) trophy in her film Of All The Things at the 10th Golden Screen Awards. The film which she starred together with his leading man in the film Aga Muhlach also received the same award in male category. This is considered as a big achievement for Velasquez since her league is in performing in entertainment.

In May, Regine Velasquez was a special guest in Vice Ganda's major concert  'I-Vice Ganda moko sa Araneta'. Regine also held a free mall show at Market Market.

In June 12, 2013 during the 115th anniversary of Philippine Independence, Regine Velasquez was named by MEGA Magazine as one of the 10 MEGA Global Pinoys because of her unparalleled contribution to the Philippine Music Industry.
In July 2013, Regine Velasquez got the #1 Spot as The Hottest Female Pinoy Celebrity in an online poll conducted by philippineedition.com. Foursome Concert was also nominated as Best Collaboration in a Concert at the Aliw Awards. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, Regine's SILVER Concert didn't get any nominations from the Aliw Awards.
In October 13, 2013, Regine Velasquez won as Female Concert of the Year (for her Silver Concert) at the 5th PMPC Star Awards for Music. Also, her collaboration concert "Foursome" with Ogie Alcasid, Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera won as Concert of the Year.

Regine Velasquez is kept grounded by family, God.

Blog Widget by LinkWithin
Regine Velasquez, 43, has always been a huge fan of Christmas.
Apart from preparing food—she’s a self-taught, natural talent at cooking—and sharing a scrumptious feast with her family, the singer/actress loves the gift-giving part of the holidays.
She told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press in an interview last December 2, Monday, “I don’t know why I get excited about gift-giving! Siyempre, receiving also!
“But more than that, I’m more excited about yung magiging itsura nung family members ko na binigyan ko ng gift na pinag-isipan ko.”
She is one to listen and take note of her loved ones’s needs, a quality she probably acquired from being the breadwinner in her family.
Come Christmas time, Regine excitedly hands out the gifts, drawing happiness from the expression of the person she's giving the gift to.
Now a mother, Regine wants to teach the value of giving to her two-year-old son with Ogie Alcasid, Nathaniel.
“That same spirit, I want him to learn—the spirit of giving.
“And not just for our family members but for the others also, kasi siya, lalaki siyang medyo privileged, e.
“Kasi ako, lumaki akong hindi ako privileged.”
Growing up, Regine was fully aware that she had to help her parents send her siblings to school and put food on the table.
“Sa tulong ni God, sa tulong ng 'binigay na gift ni God sa akin, natulungan ko yung family ko. And now, we’re doing okay. Hindi kami mayaman, but we’re doing good.
“So, si Nate, medyo okay yung life niya. I want him to be able to share also to others.”

WHAT REGINE WANTS FOR CHRISTMAS. Regine is not convinced that she has everything.
She has enough, the singer clarifies and then jokes, “Wala akong Rolce Royce!”
In truth, Regine only wants one thing for Christmas, having gone through a rough patch this year because Mang Gerry, her father, underwent surgery last July.
The experience has made her value wellness, which is all she wants to receive this holiday.
She points out, her tone sad, “Na-realize ko, nung nagkasakit Tatay ko, talagang no amount of money, no amount of jewelry, bag—nothing, wala—hindi yun makakapantay sa good health ng family mo at ng sarili mo.
“You really need to take care of yourself.”
Apart from being hale and healthy, Regine also wants a rekindled relationship with God.
“Yung spirituality natin, dapat handa rin tayo. Any moment, di ba? Parang it’s very important to have that kind of, you know... It’s very important to have that relationship with God.
“Alam na natin na do’n naman tayo pupunta.
“This Christmas, parang yun lang yung wish ko for my whole family, to discover God again, to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
“Kasi ako, parang ngayon pa lang ako nagsa-start. So, I want my family to have that same experience.”
She tries to be humorous in spite of herself, “Pang-family naman kasi talaga ang Pasko. Valentine’s, pang-jowa!”

HIGHLIGHTS, LOWLIGHTS. In retrospect, the highlights of Regine’s career in 2013 include her two major concerts.
She had her Silver concert repeat last January and she was in Foursome, a show Regine herslef mounted with OPM singers Ogie Alcasid and Concert King and Queen Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez. The latter show was a Valentine special.
But asked what the best part of her year was, Regine ends up recalling the pain that came with the good memories.
“Hindi ko alam kung ano yung maganda. Marami naman! In fairness, marami naman.
“Thankful lang ako sa magagandang bagay na nangyari sa akin this year.
“Kaya lang, minsan na-o-overshadow ng pangit yung maganda. So, parang hindi ko masyado maisip kung ano yung magaganda.
“It’s very human. But just the same, I’m just thankful for this year.
“And I’m thankful that it’s finally ending.”
She starts counting her blessings: “I’m very thankful because God has given us another chance to be with my father, to be with family, to be with my mom.
“I’m also thankful that my son is doing really well. He’s healthy.
“There was a time that he was getting sick all the time, pero ngayon parang okay naman siya.”
Does she look forward to anything in particular in 2014?
She pauses to think, then chuckles, “I’m just looking forward. Period.”
Regine adheres to the saying that we never know what lies ahead. Thus, she advises people “to keep praying, look forward, and to keep positive.”
As for regrets, the singer says that while she feels remorseful about certain things, she tries not to dwell on them.
“Meron din, meron din naman [akong regrets]. Pero… kasi wala namang maitutulong, e.
“What you can do is really learn from your mistakes.
“That’s all you can do because regretting—sure you can—but it’s not gonna change anything."
Regine tries to make sense of it all, “You keep regretting na ‘Sana hindi ko na ginawa yun!’
“Nabago ba? Hindi naman. So, parang you just feel guilty.
“So, wag na! Wag na mag-regret! Keep learning from whatever mistakes you do.”
KEEPING GROUNDED. Regine’s inspiring life story—from being a regular contender in small-town singing contests to becoming Asia’s Songbird and now also a certified star of OPM (Original Pilipino Music)—is familiar to most Filipinos.
She need not be reminded of her hard climb to stardom because Regine herself has a firm hold of who she is and where she came from.
Everything she dreamed of, she says, was given to her.
“Yung pinangarap ko noon, pinray [pray] ko kay God na sana matulungan ko yung family ko, kasi nga mahirap lang kami no’n. And I wanted to be a recording artist.
“This is really so much more—what happened to me.
“This is so much more than dun sa wish ko, dun sa pinangarap ko, dun sa pinag-pray ko. He gave me so much more.”
How her journey has gone and how her prayers have been answered amazes her until today, which is why keeping her feet planted on the ground is effortless to her.
Asked how she keeps humble, the singer laughs, seemingly astounded by the question.
She quips, “Because of family. And also, parang, ngayon pa ba ako makakalimot, ‘te?
“Sa tagal ng inilagi ko sa industriyang ito?
“Parang weird naman, ngayon pa lumaki ulo ko? Parang ang weird!”
Being a singer has been and will be just work for Regine. At the end of the day, she sees herself as a regular person who comes home to a family.
“When I go home, I’m a mommy, I’m a wife, I’m a daughter, I’m a sister.”
Regine thinks that fame can destroy one’s values. So, for her, it helps to remember that one’s abilities are God-given.
“Minsan talagang alam mo yung pag lahat ng tao pinupuri ka? Parang [sasabihin mo,] ‘Ang galing-galing ko talaga!’
“Nakakalimutan mo na hindi ikaw ang magaling.
“Si God ang magaling kasi binigay niya 'yan sa 'yo! So, you tend to forget that.
“At the end of the day, aalahanin mo lang yan.”

Written by Janno Gibbs

Regine Velasquez, who immediately agreed to be part of the project, believes music is among the best ways to inspire and uplift those who are experiencing hardships.

“Hindi lang yung mga nasalanta ang may pinagdadaanan. I think it’s the whole Philippines because everyone is affected. Maraming lumalabas na kanta to uplift our spirits but maganda na makarinig ng isang bago pang kanta na sana makapagbigay ng hope,” she said.

The Songbird added: “Right now, we’re going through some tough times. We need to encourage more people pa. Music has a power to heal. Yun ang purpose ng music. It makes you feel different feelings—so hopefully this one will help make people feel hopeful. We should never lose hope. God is with us and looking after us.”

“And if we continue to believe and have faith, we can get through this.”-PeP.ph

Regine Velasquez, OPM Artists #ThePrayerForPH (Tribute for Yolanda Victims) Music Video

OPM ARTISTS RECORD "THE PRAYER" FOR YOLANDA VICTIMS

On October 15, 2013, an earthquake with the energy equivalent to "32 Hiroshima bombs" devastated the Visayas, and parts of Mindanao and southern Luzon.

Two days later, the Loboc Children's Choir sang, "The Prayer," with the rubble of the hundred year old Loboc Church as their backdrop.

Their performance moved so many people here and abroad. Then, tragedy struck again.

On November 8, Typhoon Yolanda, the most powerful tropical cyclone of the year hit East Samar, Samar and Leyte.

Thousands died. Millions were left hungry, desperate, and homeless.

Relief efforts from the Philippines and the rest of the world are currently helping the victims survive and find temporary homes.

But the bigger challenge is how to help all these people get back to their normal lives.

This is where we took inspiration from the Loboc Children's Choir's performance.

These children may be from Bohol, but their innocent voices represent not just their home province but also earthquake-damaged Cebu, war-stricken Zamboanga, and typhoon-devastated Leyte, Samar, and Iloilo -- all of whom are praying for a miracle to allow them to rebuild their lives.

And so we asked the help of various Filipino artists to lend their voices, to represent our country, and show the world that the Philippines has one voice, one prayer -- that we work together to help our countrymen rebuild their lives brick by brick.

The resulting song will be used to raise funds through downloads. The proceeds will go to the helpPH campaign, a project by the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF). It is a non-profit organization made up of major companies from the private sector and leading NGOs. PDRF, organized in October 2009 after Typhoons Ondoy, Pepeng, and Frank to tap resources for reconstruction efforts during emergencies brought about by calamities, is one of the three identified institutional conduits approved by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to facilitate cooperation and coordination between the Philippine government and the private sector in formulating and implementing reconstruction strategies.

Its goal for Cebu, Bohol, Zamboanga and now the areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda is long-term solutions and programs that will bring businesses and jobs back to these areas. They are also planning to look into better designs for houses more suited for a country that gets hit by typhoons and earthquakes. They are focusing on rebuilding the communities which includes: immediate help, provide housing, education by rebuilding school houses, providing economic incentives, and livelihood opportunities.

As a way of giving thanks to all the countries that helped us, we offer to them "The "Prayer".
