Musicians, supporters, and members of the media were present at the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit's (OPM) General Assembly on January 23 at the Ayala Hillside Estates Clubhouse in Quezon City. OPM is a non-stock, non-profit organization of Filipino professional singers in the country established in 1986.

OPM President Ogie Alcasid hosted the event which also served as the launch of Search for a Total OPM Performer, a nationwide singing competition organized by OPM and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

“We are very happy that institutions such as the Office of the President, PAGCOR, Bureau of Immigration, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the National Telecommunications Commission continue to appreciate and support our work as partner in local music development and nation-building,” said Alcasid who was recently appointed as Convenor for the Music and Entertainment Sector of the People Power Commission.

The Search for a Total OPM Performer competition is open to all amateur singers of Filipino or dual citizenship who are 18 years old as of February 28, 2011 and who have not won any major prize in any national singing competition. It is designed to provide quality training, holistic development and fair opportunity for professional singing practice. Complete competition guidelines, forms, and list of requirements may be downloaded from the OPM website. CLICK ME

Other major OPM programs lined up are the OPM Fair and Summit in May and the continuing advocacy for the promotion of Philippine music. For inquiries, call the OPM Secretariat at 576-5069.
