Bagong Pilipinas

10 singers were chosen to sing “Bagong Pilipinas” on June 30 when President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is sworn in as the country’s 15 president.

Ogie Alcasid and Noel Cabangon were commissioned by the inaugural committee to compose the song for Aquino’s inauguration in Manila.

Madela said he was so moved by the song that he still got goosebumps even after recording the music.

“Ganda, sobrang ganda. Actually, hanggang ngayon, nag-goosebumps pa din ako, listening to all singers singing as one,” Madela said.

Aside from Madela, some of the artists who will perform the song are Alcasid, Jim Paredes, Mae Paner (popularly known as Juana Change), Nina, Christian Bautista, Cabangon, Gary Valenciano and Regine Velasquez.

“For the first time, the song will be sang by all singers. And then we’re going to be backed up by the Symphony Orchestra, 70s Band, the Madrigal Singers...and Kunderana will be there,” Alcasid said.

He added: “Lahat nga kami iba’t iba ang channel, ng network. In fact, Gary openly was supporting another president, but he came here. It’s not about that anymore. It’s about coming together and working as one.”

Valenciano, for his part, said it is only fitting that the song will be heard for the first time during Aquino’s inauguration.

‘’Yong timing ng kanta, eksakto sa historical event, for inauguration. For example, kunwari, may isang awitin na I love you. Kapag narinig natin sa radyo, okay lang. Pero pag nandiyan ka na sa sitwasyon na ‘yon, ‘yong salitang I love you, iba na ang dating,” Valenciano said.

“Bagong Pilipinas” will be included in a special music album that will be produced by Kris Aquino, the president-elect's youngest sister. -Report from Marie Lozano, ABS-CBN News
